TASO Subscriber Membership Philosophy

E-mail Print PDF

The founding of TASO in 1987 arose from a shared empathy for individuals and families infected and affected by the then strange disease, by a group of 16 volunteers.  This happened at a time little was known about HIV/AIDS, resulting into a lot of myths, misinformation and unprecedented denial and rejection of those associated with HIV/AIDS. The coming together of this small group of volunteers, led by Noerine Kaleeba, became one of the earliest responses to the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Uganda.

The idea of shared concern and responsibility became a unifying factor in mobilizing other volunteers and stakeholders to be part of this indigenous response to the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Uganda. It has remained a common thread that has galvanized individuals, families, communities and institutions at national and international level as partners and friends of this enviable organization, which is now one of the biggest and most organized national responses to the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Uganda.

TASO Subscriber membership Philosophy is a shared feeling of concerned stakeholders working together in mutual support in responding to the HIV/ AIDS epidemic. It is premised on the recognition that by working together in partnership, we shall achieve more in our responses and will defeat HIV so we can live in “A world without HIV”. The subscriber membership philosophy is cognizant of the fact that no single institution or country can resolve the challenges caused by HIV/AIDS and stop its spread in the world and is a call for each of us to join and be part of the responses to this pandemic.

The Subscriber membership Philosophy is therefore an invitation to each one of us in our various capacities and irrespective of our HIV sero status, to identify with and be part of the responses to the HIV/AIDS pandemic by TASO that has pioneered a number of promising and best practices which have been adopted by other partners at national and international level. For 25 years now, TASO ‘s mission has remained “ to contribute to the process of preventing HIV infection, restoring hope and improving the quality of life of persons, families and communities affected by HIV infection and disease”.  This is being done thorough a comprehensive package of HIV prevention, care and support services provided at the 11 service centres and 1 training centre across all the 4 regions of the country.

To join this growing family of compassionate people committed to making a difference to the world citizens in the HIV/AIDS responses, one needs to sign up and contribute some membership fee. This is besides many other things each of us can and should do to make a difference in the lives of individuals, families and communities affected by HIV/AIDS and above all contribute to ending HIV in the world. By so doing, you will become a member of the larger TASO Family and Friend and will identify with the successes registered over the years in the HIV/AIDS responses.  Please, say you want to be part of this response and register as a subscriber member now. This is your opportunity to join the fight against HIV and make your contribution count in preventing HIV infection and supporting persons, families and communities affected by HIV/AIDS.
