TASO Shines at the fifth National AIDS Conference

TASO has put up an impressive show at the just concluded fifth National AIDS Conference (NAC) that was held between March 26th - 28th 2008 at Speke Resort Munyonyo under the theme: "Evidence driven Action for Greater Success," and the slogan "Moving beyond past achievements."

The conference that is held after every two years attracted over 1000 delegates this year, with10% of whom (112) coming from TASO.

The conference provided a forum for different actors to share the latest evidence, experiences, lessons learned and ideas from HIV/AIDS research and practice, and how all these have informed policy.

TASO made presentations in different break-out sessions on Sustainable Livelihoods Programming, the Impact of Food Aid on People Living with HIV/AIDS (PHA), HIV AIDS in emergency settings, etc.

TASO also set up an exhibition stall showing its core services presented in pictorial, physical, video and oral form. On TASO's exhibition stall for example was the pictorial presentation of Counseling services; physical and pictorial show of the medical services; the social support services including Sustainable Livelihoods Programming, the Impact of Anti-retroviral Therapy and other documentaries, different training manuals, as well as collaborations and partnerships (SCOT&TEACH).

while closing the conference, Professor Mondo Kagonyera, challenged politicians especially Members of parliament to make polices and laws that would work towards adopting the conference resolutions and recommendations in order to defeat the AIDS epidemic in Uganda.
